In Oregon alone, there is an estimated 18,000 homeless youth. It seems unreal that this many children and teens are left without food or shelter in Oregon’s rainy weather. Recent market fluctuation has increased last years homeless numbers by 14% with Canby School District having the highest homeless rate in the Portland area.
Especially during the holiday season, it is important to give a helping hand to these special children. In December 2008 we came up with the idea of “Operation Snuggle”. Our first year, we were able to provide handmade fleece blankets, pajamas, socks and warm outwear with help from generous providers. Additionally, over 300 community members came to help make blankets and we finished in 2.5 hours! We believe that every child deserves at least one Christmas present, and this year our goal is to make it happen AGAIN!
We are determined to give each homeless child in the Canby School Districts a “tie blanket” with warm pajamas or sweats, socks, and a pillow. Unfortunately we cannot do it without you! Each blanket will cost approximately $12.00 and we are currently working with buyers to secure a final price. Last year when blankets were delivered it came to our attention that many kids need pillows, and it is our goal to provide this as well.
Our goal this year is help 377 homeless children in Canby! That's 77 more then last year! With the kindness the community has shown in the past, we know this goal is possible. Any donation will help! Thank you for your time and consideration, we hope to hear back from you.
